Veggies in January

In an attempt to instill an appreciation for home-grown food, Dad would regularly remind us kids over dinner that fresh harvested vegitables were a novel and glorious thing, Not only were these delicious, we were informed, but they represented a significant cost savings, when compared to the price one would pay in a fancy restuarant for the pleasure of eating such delicacies. So the words "Fresh vegtables from the garden in the middle of January!" were ringing in my ears as I picked a bowl of savory sprouts this afternoon.

NICE! From one who lives in MN, I am slightly jealous... But with modern technology and a very ingenious and constructively oriented husband, perhaps it may be in my future as it was in my past... veggies in the middle of winter! Woohoo!

Congrats, gardener! I enjoyed catching up on your latest run of posts (though I confess skipping over the techie stuff). Keep up the fun and brainy writing, bro!

This saying is also firmly established in our family's repertoire. Unfortunately we're not picking them right now, but we still have fresh beets and parsnips in the fridge from October.
